Salem Business Collects Care-Package Items For TroopsPosted by Jillian Renner on Dec 23, 2014 in News | 0 comments
Golden Rule Remodeling & Design launched Mission Care Package in September and is about to send more than 525 donated items to local troops serving overseas.
“We’re so surprised. We were not expecting that turnout,” said Nicole, office and marketing assistant for Golden Rule.
Nicole said she has 15 boxes ready for shipment on Tuesday, Dec. 23, and the office will continue to collection donations until then and through the holidays.
Each year, Golden Rule finds a different way to give back during the holidays, and supporting the troops was an easy choice because all of its employees have a connection to someone who has served in the military.
Master carpenter Mike Langstaff was a medic in the Army for 20 years, stationed in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Korea and Germany.
The father of Jillian Renner, interior designer and CEO, served in the military for 40 years, and her godchildren lived with her and her husband this past summer while their dad was deployed in Afghanistan.
The wife of Karl Wear, lead carpenter, works for the Oregon National Guard in Salem, and his father served in the Navy and his brother in the Army.
Nicole also has family members who have served in the Marine Corps, Navy Reserves and Army.
The items collected by Golden Rule will be sent to troops from Oregon. Addresses have been provided by the Oregon National Guard family support program.
Nicole said Mission Care Package has generated a great response thanks in part to local businesses that have helped spread the word. Thomas Kay Flooring & Interiors, The Fixture Gallery, Parr Lumber, Sherwin Williams, Kelly’s Lighting and Judson’s Plumbing have all displayed signs describing the mission and keeping shopping lists of needed items on their counters.
Golden Rule is making it easy for the community to donate, providing the packaging, paying for the postage and filling out the required custom forms.
Hygiene, food, entertainment and miscellaneous items are needed and can be dropped off Monday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. at Golden Rule Remodeling & Design, Inc., 1230 Fairview Ave. SE, Salem, OR 97302. Or call (503) 365-8100 to schedule a drop-off appointment.
